Omega - Chapter Three

The prophets of the Lord came before Him and cried, Oh Lord, the people will not listen to the words You have given us to speak.. How long, Lord, how long?"

The Lord's wrath was fearful to behold as He plucked all of His prophets from the earth and told them to wait.

The words the Lord had given to His prophets were living words and they formed a high wall while His prophets waited behind the wall.

Suddenly the words themselves began to speak. The people were startled by the voice and turned as one to see who had spoken. Their hearts filled with fear and confusion was in every eye for the words themselves were speaking! The words were confronting them revealing the hardness of their hearts.

The people shrunk back. "How can words speak?" they questioned one another. They did not want to listen but they were powerless against the words. They huddled together as though they might gain strength by their numbers. They covered their ears and backed away, but directly behind them was another wall of words! This wall was standing in silent accusation for they had been spoken long ages past.

The people looked about seeking a means of escape. There was a tremendous high cliff reaching far into the heavens to their right. It was smooth as glass and hard as granite. No escape there.

They looked to their left and saw what appeared to be an opening. They ran toward it, but it was not an opening after all. It was a wall of pure transparent crystal. There was no where to hide.

Suddenly the words thundered with one voice, "Why did you not listen when the prophets of the Lord came before you time after time? We cried out the awful warnings, but you would not listen! Now it is time for us to fulfill all that has been spoken and you shall know no mercy!"

The people cried out, "Send us another prophet! We will listen! We cannot bear to hear your words!"

The words ceased speaking and began methodically fulfilling every word that had been spoken. Nothing could stay their progression.

The people waited in terror when suddenly, the crystal wall was raised. The people ran toward it as fast as they could believing that it was their means of escape. But when they reached it, they saw what appeared to be a bottomless abyss. They peered over the edge and their hearts were filled with conflict. If they flung themselves over the edge, they would no longer have to listen to the words. If they stayed, they would be made to face their shame.

Some flung themselves over the edge in desperation. Others stayed behind huddled together to see what lay in store.

The wall that was madeup from words spoken long ages past was suddenly lying flat on the ground although no one had seen how this had come to be. The wall formed a ramp that led into a valley. No one stirred.

The Lord strode into view and stood rigidly on the ramp. He looked at the frightened faces and His countenance was stern. He called all of His prophets from the first to the last and bade them gather around Him.

When all were gathered around, He turned and walked into the valley and the prophets followed Him.. The people stood watching.

When they had walked some distance, the Lord turned back toward the people and said, "You shall follow Me and My prophets, but come no closer than the distance which I have measured off."

They continued walking. The people followied in silence not daring to come any closer than the distance allotted them.

Isaiah was among the prophets and he was speaking, "We are walking through the valley of the shadow of death, the shadow of the Great Judgment which hovers over all. For every generation, for every great event, the Lord has sent His prophets into the world to sound the warning and to prepare the way. Every prophet who walks here had been sent at his appointed hour to speak the words the Lord had give him. Because of the Father's great mercy, He raises up a prophet to keep His word ever before the people. The prophet is not aware of his terrible unworthiness until he faces the awful majesty of the Lord and only the Lord can reveal it. Only then is the prophet aware of his generation's desperate need for forgiveness. How else could he know but that the Lord reveal it? He cannot know of the need for forgiveness until his heart is filled with understanding of the great gulf that exists between sinful man and his Creator. The prophet is called that he might come before the Throne with a broken and contrite heart, begging forgiveness for himself and his generation, for the Lord Himself has revealed this .

"The people of this generation will watch the prophet called for this time from afar for they do not wish to acknowledge their sin. They know deep in their hearts of their shameful sins and will turn away from the prophet, not wanting to listen."

The Lord, His prophets and the people continued walking until they they came to a fair land. The Lord turned to the people and said, "We shall dwell in this fair land for a time. You shall nave no master other than the Lord. And My prophets shall rule with Me."

The people dwelt peacefully with the Lord.

After some time had passed, He called the people to assemble themselves together, that He might to speak to them. "We shall walk through the valley one more time." He said.

They followed the Lord and the prophets through the valley until they came back to the crystal wall. They stood silently waiting. Suddenly the wall was raised.

Some of the people ran toward the abyss and flung themselves over the side even though they had lived in perfect peace with the Lord for a time. They were fearful lest the words hurl accusations at them once more. The Lord stood watching. The rest of the people wandered about aimlessly uncertain as to what to do.

A ladder dropped from the heavens. Some of the people saw it as a means of escape and hurriedly climbed the ladder and were gone from view. Those who remained seemed uncertain and continued their aimless wanderings.

The ladder was drawn back up into the heavens taking all the words with it. No thing remained, all were gone.

Choice was forever removed.

* * * * * * *

The Lord's prophet for this generation came before the Lord. "Lord," cried the prophet, "I cannot bear the hardness of the people's hearts. My weeping overcomes me. What am I to do?"

The Lord took the prophet by the hand, walked a short distance and entered a building. There was a long corridor the length of the building with rooms to the left and the wall to the right. The Lord and His prophet entered one of the rooms where many hosts were seated. They looked up as they entered.

"I have brought My messenger to you for he is need of comfort. Minister to him while I am gone. I shall return shortly," said the Lord.

One of the hosts rose and said, "We are the ministering angels who ministered to the Lord when He was overcome in the solitary place."

"How can you minister to a broken heart?" asked the prophet.

Two hosts came forward and led the prophet to a small pool of water. He removed his dusty garments and bathed in the refreshing water. Still the heaviness of heart was not lifted.

The Lord came into the room and took the prophet to another room, an enormous dining hall prepared for guests. They sat down and and two hosts entered bringing food and wine and set it down before them. Still the prophet was not strengthened.

They left and came to a circle of friends who had prepared a welcome for the prophet for they believed the words he had spoken. There was much laughter and joyful celebrating before the prophet set out on the last of his journey. At last, the heaviness was lifted and the prophet was prepared to face what all prophets through the ages had faced before.

The Lord and the prophet were standing together when the Lord said, "The most difficult thing for man to endure is to face absolute hatred from his fellow man. Do you know what would cause such hatred?"

"Tell me," said the prophet.

"Man has come to believe the lie that he can be as great as God. Whosoever causes man to look at the lie and expose his nakedness, that man will he hate. Why do you think man rejected and despised the Son of Man so that only His death would appease them? He confronted them with Truth, exposing the delusion under which man lived. One can only cling to their lie by denying Truth, so they sought to destroy the Source of Truth. Truth, however, cannot be destroyed, for Truth shall judge man.

"Any man who loves Truth must be prepared to face the hatred of the world."

"Lord," I said, "When You speak, You often speak in parables and visions which I do not understand. At times when I pray, it is as though You do not answer at all. Why do You not speak more plainly so that all men might understand?"

"Oh, I always answer!", He said. "The Mind of the Father is so above man's that We answer man's request in accordance with how it fits into the whole, how it best benefits the whole as well as the one.

"The Father's answers also contain beauty, like the artist who with deft strokes of his brush creates a masterpiece. The artist attempts to evoke a response by what he has painted and often it is only he who understands what he wishes to portray.

"If I wish to present a picture that would stir man's imagination to cause him to consider its meaning, which would best produce the desired result?

"If I should say, 'Listen to Me, oh man, for I am speaking for the Father and I want everyone on earth to hear me.' Does this cause one to think of a deeper meaning? Does it contain words of beauty?

"But if I say, 'The Lord is seated on His massive white steed with a myriad of angels behind Him holding flaming torches called the 'Fire That Burns But Does Not Consume'. Within each flame The Word of God burns brightly within that all men might come to see and hear.'

"Now which contains the greater stirring of man's response and which contains the greater beauty? In truth, the parables and visions paint a vivid image in man's mind. My responses are complete answers, for they encompass the whole. And the whole is filled with great beauty."

A Drama

The Place: Man's heart

The scene:An army of angels surround man's heart to protect it from the enemy. The enemy approaches the angels. The enemy's name is Doubt.

The angels stand without,
The waiting Lord within.
The angels prod at Doubt.
Doubt thrusts out his chin.
No easy foe to conquer, so determined he will win.

The angels - so intent, they dare not blink an eye.
No opening must appear, lest the enemy slip by.
Doubt circles 'round the angels, casting furtive glances.
He must break through to enter, so boldly, he advances.

The angels raise their swords, their eyes full of contempt.
But reckless now, Doubt lunges! He must make the attempt!
As one, the angels move, no one says a word.
Their mighty arms lash out. Still, no sound is heard.

The Lord stands still and watches, hands clasped behind His back.
No movement does He make at the angels' swift attack.

The enemy is destroyed. The angels stand and wait.
The Lord approaches slowly, Doubt has met his fate.
"Make a path," He says, and two angels step aside.
"Roll out the carpet now," He says, "And make the pathway wide."
Angels roll the carpet out, "Make sure the ground is clear,
That no stone or pitfall lurks, for those who shall walk here."

Satisfied, He turns, speaks to those the angels freed,
They gather round to hear His words, warmed by the wondrous deed.

"Listen now, My people, am I not the Lord?
Straighten up your backbone! Fasten on your sword!
Need My people tremble? Need My people plead?
Is not the whole world Mine? Tremble? Plead? Indeed!

"Do you wonder still if I am truly able,
To take care of your needs, to set your noontime table?
Enough! Stand up! Take courage! With joy, complete your task.
Would I neglect provision to do the thing I ask?

"Am I like feeble man - needing reassurance?
Am I like faltering man, with his fragile, weak endurance?
My angels routed Doubt. The battle has been won!
Will I not bring to pass that which was begun?"

* * * * * * *

The Lord said, "Doubt blinds the eye so that it cannot see clearly. In the beginning when God created the world and all it contained, He had already made provision for all of His creatures. When man walked in Belief and Trust beforeDoubt clouded the eye, all things were provided freely by the Father Himself. When man turned his back on the Father, he also turned from God's provision and Doubt entered his heart. He sought to provide for his own needs in his own way and God allowed him to so so, for this was his choice.

"If man chooses to walk with Belief and Trust once more, he will also look to the Father for his provision as in the beginning. The Father has never withdrawn His provision. It is still there for all those who choose to walk in Trust."

He held up a clear piece of glass with the light streaming through it. "See how the light passes through in all its fullness."

He then held up a piece of glass that was no longer clear. "If the glass is clouded by Doubt, see how its radiance is dimmed. When Doubt has been removed, the eye sees Creation as a creation filled with beauty and purpose."

The Lord said, "Let us make a toast to Hidden Beauty which is all around to the eye that sees clearly!" He raised His glass and looked around at the creation. "The world is full of hidden beauty," He said. "Because of man's Doubt, he no longer sees it. He no longer takes great delight in the beauty which surrounds him. Let us walk slowly that we not miss the gifts filled with beauty and wonder."

We walked for a while and came upon two of the Lord's people who had taken great delight in reaching out to offer their gifts of love and provision to those in need. Their hearts were like bubbling springs of water which rose within them bursting forth and was indeed a hidden delight to behold!!

We walked further and saw two daffodils bursting through the barren ground of winter, their bright yellow heads a reminder of the fresh life of spring.

We walked along and came to a sparkling spring. It provided refreshing waters to many thirsting souls. So much hidden beauty flowing from the Father's hand and all freely given.

"Hidden delights abound throughout the creation," said the Lord. "The ripened fruit ready to pluck to delight the palate, the fields of grain ready to be ground into flour to provide nourishment to the body, Everywhere one looks provision springs forth and all are living gifts. Let us walk further."

We continued walking through the fields. The Lord said, See the stones lying about. Remember when we walked in the field before and I said there was one stone that I waited you to find."

"Yes, Lord, I remember," I said.

"This is the field where you found the living stone, which is My living Word to bring men into Peace and Trust. Let us sit a minute while I call My Woman of Grace, for it is Grace which flows from the Father's hand and it is Grace which shall accomplish the Father's will."

He called to her and she joined us. He called her His "Special Daughter" and said, "I have seen the desire of your heart, which is to give freely asking nothing in return. Come with Me."

They walked a short distance and He was speaking very softly to her, although what He was saying, I could not hear.

Suddenly her eyes widened with delight and she threw her head back and laughed heartily.

They returned to where I was waiting and sat down. They exchanged glances as though sharing some delightful secret as her eyes danced with merry twinkle.

The Lord said to the Woman of Grace, "Because you know this thing comes from Me, and because you desire the will of the Father above all, your heart will be filled with delight for the Father desires to bring you great joy just as doing His will brings Him great joy."

The Lord called together a gathering of His people. They gathered together with the Lord standing in their midst. As each person approached the Lord, His brilliance grew brighter, until the place where they were gathered was filled with a glorious light.

I suddenly understood! I had thought that when two or more were gathered in the Name of the Lord, He would join them, but this was not so, for He was already there! When they came together, it was the Lord's light that was increased greatly.

I said to the Lord, "I understand why you tell us to gather together in Your Name. It is so that Your light might shine more brightly in the world! It is so that Your Name might be glorified!"

* * * * * * *

There was a beam of light streaming from heaven toward earth until it came to rest upon the Trusting Believer. The Lord was standing at the top of the beam and called to the Trusting Believer to come join Him.

The Lord started walking down the beam and His Trusting Believer followed. About halfway down, He stopped and said, "Wait here. I shall return shortly."

The Lord continued down until He came upon the earth. He gathered up all the prayer requests that had been spoken and placed them in a sack, such as a mailman would carry. He then started back up the beam and as He did so, the beam became a stairway.

When He reached the top, He opened the sack and removed the prayer requests. They all had a life of their own! The Lord commanded them to go down the stairway in the same order in which they had been received. They proceeded forth until the first request was standing on the first step of the stairway which was resting on the earth. Each request went forth in its order, taking its place on the next step above.

When all of the requests were standing on their respective steps, the Lord called out, "Go forth and fulfill yourselves!"

One by one, they went forth until all had been fulfilled.

* * * * * * *

The Lord said,

"Come walk with Me, My children, come and walk with Me.
And I will show you wonders few eyes will ever see.
Come learn from Me, My children, come and learn from Me.
And you shall learn the secret of God's serenity.

"Walk slowly now, My children, you must not walk in haste.
Observe most closely, children, observe and hear and taste.
Slowly now, more slowly, lest the lessons pass you by.
For all things move in rhythm - the earth, the sea, the sky.
Only man pursues - he has not learned to wait.
Only man leaps forward, fearful of his fate.

"Note the cattle, children, how calmly they do graze,
No urgent striving in them to disrupt the languid days.
They do not trample one another for a larger share,
For all the meadow is their realm, each blade of grass is fair.

"Look beneath your feet, still brown from winter past.
See the tiny shoot, pushing through at last.
It could not come before its time, nor break the frozen earth.
It could not speed the moment, the moment of its birth.
The sun had first to shine and the gentle rains to fall,
Then, when all was ready, it answered its own call.

"Look above, My children, see the tiny bird in flight.
See the little twig his small beak holds so tight.
How many must he gather in his never-ending quest
Until the time is ready, and he settles in his nest.

"Let me ask you, children, do they seek and strain?
Do they rush about, seemingly in vain?
Do they tire much too soon before their task is done?
Do they ask 'How long?' when they've just begun?
They know the secret, children, the secret of new life.
They know when it's their time, freeing them from strife.
They wait their days in patience, waiting for the Father's 'Now'.
Then all provision springs forth...no need to ask Him 'How?'"

* * * * * * *

The Lord was seated on the top step of the stairway to heaven. Behind Him loomed the Heavenly Mansion. From Their heavenly place, the Father and Son were able to view all that was taking place on earth.

They were watching Their prophet.

"How do You choose a prophet from all the peoples on earth?" I asked.

"I do not choose a prophet," He said. "I raise up a prophet. If you desire a special bloom in your garden, would you scatter seeds at random then seek out a special bloom? No, you would carefully plant the seed to produce the bloom you wish. You would nurture it, care for it and wait until it grew into that which you desired. So do I raise up a prophet when it is the season and the time to send forth another one."

"Has the time come for You to send another one forth?" I asked. "And how does one recognize the season?"

"Look down upon the earth and you will understand."

There were little groups of people walking and talking together. They were talking about the Lord and praising His name, but it was only with their lips for in their hearts, they did not care. They were puffed up with self-righteous arrogance.

"Lord," I cried, "They don't really know You! What will You do?"

"I will do what I have done time after time. I will send forth another prophet. I will prepare a feast and have My prophet invite them to come dine with Me that they might come to know Me."

He sent forth another prophet to gather the finest ingredients to prepare a grand feast. When all was in readiness, the prophet invited all the guests, from the greatest to the least, he invited them all.

When all the guests were seated, the food was served in proper fashion as the guests nodded with polite attention. There were dogs lying beneath the table anticipating scraps of food that might fall to the floor.

The guests eyed the food that was placed before them, but rather than partaking of the meal, they surreptitiously fed it to the dogs who were eagerly accepting all the morsels.

"I can't believe it!" I cried. "Why didn't the people feast on the grand meal placed before them?"

The Lord's countenance reflected His great anger. "Time after time, I have sent forth My prophets to prepare a feast for the people that they might hunger no more. And time after time they have thrown My food to the dogs! They think they have no need of Me when their possessions have taken care of their needs. But see what I shall do."

The Lord called down to the people of earth and they looked up and saw Him. "Why, there is the Lord!" they cried.

He then commanded them to look away from Him. "Go to the hillsides, fall down and worship your possessions! Beg them to spare you!" He cried out.

The people haltingly went to the hillsides and looked at their possessions. They were frightened for they knew they could not save them.

"Beg them!" the Lord repeated.

The people looked at their possessions and a hideous stone with dead mocking eyes stared blankly back at them.

>i>"Let them save you!" shouted the Lord.

"They cannot...." the people murmured ashamedly. "They cannot....."

"Do not turn around!" the Lord warned. "Look at what you have worshipped!"

But the people could not bear to look.

The Lord turned to His prophets. "What say you, oh prophets. What shall I do with these people?"

The prophets replied, "Lord, You are a God of great mercy and compassion. Forgive them, Lord, not because they are worthy of Your forgiveness, but for Your own Name's sake and because You must fulfill Your own nature."

"Did you hear the words of My prophets?"
asked the Lord. "They could not speak thus but that My word dwells within them. In the midst of your mockery, My prophets look for forgiveness for they know that is the way of the Lord."

* * * * * * *

Oh how the Great Hour nears,
When the sun no longer will shine.
When My voice man no longer hears,
And the Terrible Day is Mine.

Oh the agony that I bore...'twas more than I could bear!
I cried to the Father in heaven, 'If only this moment too spare...'

And heaven held its breath, wide-eyed in awful terror.
"Surely this cannot be!" it cried, '"tis certain a terrible error!"
But no, no mistake that day, that day I hung on the tree,
When the sun hid its face and heaven did flee, for they could not bear to look at Me.

Oh the hour was dark that day, that day on which I died,
But 'twas not so dark as the darkness which comes when every man seeks to hide.
Oh look, look down on the earth, how awful the coming tide.
Sweeping over the lands with no time to step aside.

'Tis My death, My death crying out...
"Vengeance is Mine!" it does shout!
"Scorning My agony, turning away...
Still not hearing the words that I say!"

* * * * * * *

The Lord was standing at the top of the heavenly stairway. He called, inviting me to join Him. He said, "Come, we shall walk though the heavenly fields."

He pointed in the direction we would be walking when my eyes fell on the scar of His hand where it had been so cruelly pierced when the men of earth crucified Him. I was filled with horror and fell on my knees, "Oh Lord, I am so sorry!"

The cross loomed in the distance as some obscure object, but it was filled with awful power.

We walked a distance and came to the Holy City of Jerusalem. There was much activity with the crowds pressing in around us, but they were unaware of our presence. The street sloped upward with houses attached to one another with entrances directly off the walkway. We stopped at a plain square building and entered. We walked up an old flight of stairs and went into a room where the disciples were seated at a long table. They nodded their welcome. The Lord asked Peter to go out into the streets that I might observe.

Peter rose to do as he was told and I followed.

There was beggar dressed in filthy rags huddled in a doorway. He could not walk for his legs were twisted and crippled. He looked up at Peter and held out his hand begging for alms. Peter looked intently into his eyes. "I have not gold nor silver," he said, "But in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth, rise and walk."

The beggar rose in amazement, glanced at Peter and was gone from view.

"How was it that you were so certain that the beggar would rise and walk as you commanded?" I asked Peter.

"When our Lord walked the earth, He healed all who came to Him to reveal the great Power of God, that He is able is do all things. He had only to speak and it would come to pass, for all of creation recognizes the Son of God, except the blind man. When the Lord was crucified, the power of the Cross became such that it enabled the name of Jesus to carry the same authority as the Person of Jesus because of the Cross. The power of the Cross was revealed to His disciples, so they too were given the authority to reveal its power."

"If the power of the Cross is for all ages, why do we not see the miracles that were accomplished as in your day?" I asked.

Peter said, "All of creation knows the Lord. All of creation also recognizes those who belong to the Lord and speak in His Name. It responds to no authority other than the Lord's. The Cross bestows the same authority as though the Lord Himself were speaking. for because of what was accomplished through the death of the Lord on the Cross and the Resurrection, the Cross carries the self-same power. This knowledge enables me to speak with confidence that what we ask, must come to pass that the Lord's glory be made manifest and that His death be not in vain."

* * * * * * *

The Lord was walking through the building where the ministering angels had been. He walked the length of the corridor and went out a door at the end. As He stepped outside, He saw a blind woman who was seated behind a table selling flowers. She turned in His direction and asked, "Flowers, Sir?"

The Lord looked at her and asked, "Which would you prefer - a coin for your flowers or that your sight be restored?"

A confused look crossed her face and she said, "Are You jesting with me, Sir?"

"Which would you prefer," He asked again, "A coin for your flowers or your sight?"

She seemed to ponder the thought a moment and answered, "I would prefer my sight."

"So let it be,"
said the Lord, and her sight was restored.

"Who ARE You?" she asked with amazement.

"The Son of Man," He answered and walked away.

Two men approached the woman and they saw that she was no longer blind. "How is it you are able to see?" they questioned.

"I do not know...." she said, "All I know is a man asked me if I would prefer a coin for my flowers or my sight. When I told Him I would prefer my sight, my sight was restored!"

The men looked skeptical and said, "How can this be?"

"I do not know. All I know is - before I was blind and now I can see."

The men shrugged their shoulders and walked away.

"Lord," I cried, "Those men did not even ask about You! And the woman didn't even thank You! Why did You restore her sight?"

"The purpose of all healing is to glorify the Father," He said. "And the Father does whatsoever the Son asks that the Father might be glorified as well. To those who are called to be children of God, so also can they ask and I shall answer to bring much glory to the Father and to the Son."

* * * * * * *

There was one who was called to come before the Father and write the words that He would give her. She listened carefully and suddenly was writing rapidly. I could not see what was being written, but I saw the heading: "Healing - What it is and what it is not."

She gathered up the papers and returned to earth, holding them high above her head, for the people were pressing about her and she meant to protect them from being torn.

Suddenly a voice rang out, "And the Beast was able to work great miracles as long as he is in the presence of the Great Beast!"

"What does that mean?" I cried out.

"Behold and understand," said the voice.

I saw that the Beast had great power to delude the people. The second Beast was able to perform amazing miracles and the people were greatly impressed. His purpose was to dazzle the throngs who watched, to show that he was as great as the most High God and could do all the things that God Himself could do.

Suddenly a pathway appeared and the one holding the papers stepped out on the path and the people watched, waiting expectantly to see what would happen. The Lord's prophet stepped on the pathway and followed the woman walking ahead.

The scene changed in an instant. John the Baptist appeared walking on a pathway like the one the woman and the prophet were walking, and the Lord was following John, from west to east they were walking.

When he was half way across the earth, the Lord overtook John and continued on until He stepped off the earth and waited.

The scene reverted back to the woman and the prophet. They were walking from the east to the west, the opposite direction from which John and the Lord had walked. Halfway across the earth, the Lord overtook the prophet and the prophet was seen no more. The Lord continued walking until He came to the end of the earth and stepped off.

* * * * * * *

The Lord was standing with His prophet just outside the doorway of the Heavenly Mansion. They entered, walked through a magnificent hallway and entered a very dimly-lit large room. It looked like an auditorium with row upon row of seats and a stage at the far end with heavy curtains which were drawn closed. The Lord took a seat in the very last row and told the prophet to go stand behind a lectern up on the stage. The prophet did as he was told and saw a small book lying on the lectern. On the cover was written "Sing Praises to the Lord".

Behind the curtain came the sounds of an orchestra being assembled, like the scraping of chairs and muted voices.

There were two doors on either side of the auditorium, which opened wide allowing many people to enter. Soon every seat was taken.
The prophet looked at the Lord, but He remained seated and said nothing.

The people sat waiting and after a time, they became restless for nothing was happening. They were murmuring among themselves, complaining at being invited and there was nothing to see. Just as they were rising to leave, the curtain rose and a hush fell over the crowd.

The prophet was standing behind the lectern, saying nothing when the crowd began snickering and jeering at him and making mockery. The prophet was unaware of a caption directly over his head which read, "Behold the Prophet of the Lord".

When the caption first appeared, the crowd had fallen silent and waited expectantly for the prophet to perform some miracle, but when nothing happened, the crowd thought it was some jest and raised taunting voices.

The prophet buried his head in his hands when silence fell once more.

A white dove appeared, fluttering just over the head of the prophet. Then it was gone in an instant as though it had entered his being. In place of the dove, a tongue of fire rested on his head and that too was gone in an instant as though it too had entered his being. Suddenly the tongue of fire appeared at his finger tips. The prophet stood staring at the Lord who was still seated in the last row.The people watched and waited, but nothing further happened. The prophet continued looking steadfastly at the Lord.

Suddenly the Lord stoop up and the prophet did not take his eyes from Him. The people finally turned around to see what he was looking at and they saw the Lord! "Why, there's the Lord!" they cried.

The Lord said to them. "Do you not yet know that all power comes from the Lord and the Lord alone? My prophets can do nothing but that I enable them. Why have you always derided their obedience and made mockery of them?"
