Heaven's Keeper of Books A voice from heaven cries out... "Bring Me the Ledger, oh Guardian of Books. All debts must be repaid. It's time to tally the score, to balance each transaction made". The Ledger was opened for all to see.... all the peoples of earth. Each soul conceived was recorded there, before each mortal birth. A terrible burden of debt had been entered beside each name. Young or old, thru countless ages, the debt was all the same. When the Lord appeared fresh from the grave, He wiped each debt away, Leaving the Ledger spotless, as intended on Creation's Day. The pages were carefully divided... three columns to every page, Each man's response was recorded.... his response was also his wage. The Keeper of Books opened the Ledger, watching every man below him, Recording in greatest detail... how each responded when debts were owed him. For those who demanded payment, without mercy or concern, Extracting extra coin to ensure a greater return... The Keeper of Books so noted with roving eye so solemn, With one swift stroke of his pen, made notation in the very first column. When those who owed him had paid in full, the Lord then made Himself known. "This is your own reward," He said. "You have reaped what you have sown." For those demanding payment in equal measure as was due, This too was duly noted and recorded in column two. When those who owed him had paid in full, the Lord then made Himself known. "This is your own reward," He said. "You have reaped what you have sown." For those whose hearts were grateful that the Lord had paid their debts, Who freely gave to all, giving without regrets, The Keeper of Books sat quietly and no notation was made, Leaving the third column spotless, as tho' the debt had been paid. Suddenly did the Lord appear! In all His glory He came! "I bring your heavenly reward," He said, calling them each by name. Gently He called them His very own and gathered them to His breast. "Come," He said as they walked together to join in the heavenly rest. |
